For my birthday (a couple weeks ago now), Kenn and I decided to take a little drive to Cannon Beach. Being from southern California, the beach here is nothing like the beaches of my childhood, which were featureless but warm. Here in Oregon, the beaches are beautiful but freezing cold. Kenn wore the shirt I [...]

Another project I’ve been working on for the last few months was Cocktail Camp, an awesome local craft cocktail event spearheaded by my dear husband Kenn. I’m a little embarrassed to not have posted about Cocktail Camp before now, since it’s been such a big part of our lives. Cocktail Camp is all about learning [...]

Sarai Mitnick Day 2 from Sarai Mitnick on Vimeo. I thought I’d share yesterday’s video from my Ground Rules challenge. Doing video is super weird and frightening, but I am really learning quite a bit by doing it. Making the videos is really pretty fun and I think with more practice I’ll get better at [...]

I’ve become accustomed to many things about living in Oregon over the last couple years. The rain doesn’t bother me at all. The fact that people are polite and nice (even bus drivers! unheard of in San Francisco!) no longer surprises me. I’m used to the excellent coffee everywhere, the amount of flannel, and even [...]

You guys know how I love a fancy, classic cocktail. Well, Kenn and I and a bunch of friends have been working on putting together this fun community event next month in Portland: Cocktail Camp PDX. You might have noticed the ad for it in the sidebar, in fact. It’s hosted by the lovely folks [...]

Like Anja, I headed out to the Portland Antique Expo this weekend. I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it since I am in the midst of a lot of sewing, but I decided I should take a break and I’m so glad I did. Oh, the dresses. So many pretty ones. This [...]

Kenn’s mom and stepdad were visiting this weekend, so we took them up to the Japanese Garden. It was so pretty, maybe even prettier in the Winter than when were there in the warmer months. Japanese design never fails to amaze me, the way things can seem so organic and sculpted at the same time.

It snowed! Kenn and I were sitting around, working in the office, when I peeked out the window to see fat snowflakes falling everywhere. It was fun watching it go from a light dusting to a thick white blanket. I was beside myself with joy and kept calling it a “winter wonderland” over and over. [...]

I’m late on posting abut this, but we went to the Eastmoreland Neighborhood Garage Sale recently, and it was pretty fun. It was a beautiful day in a lovely much-swankier-than-my-own neighborhood, and we spent hours wandering around. Over 100 households participate in this massive sale every year. Given the neighborhood, I guess it was unsurprising [...]

A while back someone asked to see more photos of the outside of our house. We finally took a few more photos, now that everything is overgrown and lush and lovely. It’s all a bit ramshackle, but I like it that way. What I like best is that the whole thing looks different every few [...]
