Feeling rosey

I am getting ready for spring by indulging in a bit of my favorite color.

Portland Antique Expo

Like Anja, I headed out to the Portland Antique Expo this weekend. I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it since I am in the midst of a lot of sewing, but I decided I should take a break and I’m so glad I did.

Oh, the dresses. So many pretty ones.

This [...]

Lace for my sunglasses

I’m in love with this gorgeous glasses case that reader Kim made for me and sent all the way from Australia. Can you believe it? Sometimes it is astounding to me how nice people are.

It’s just beautifully constructed, and the white lace has me longing for summer already.

Spring is coming

The weather has been absolutely gorgeous in Portland for the last week. I know it’s a false start and the rain will return, but it’s still a welcome relief. There are flowers absolutely everywhere all of a sudden.

When the weather is nice, we take a lot more walks. Long, rambling walks around [...]

Vday

Did you have a good valentine’s day? I am ambivalent about it. I love the imagery and the idea of expressing your love, but the whole thing has become sort of a commercial nightmare, don’t you think?
I like the idea of having valentine’s day all the time, which is one reason [...]

Japanese design never fails to amaze me, the way things can seem so organic and sculpted at the same time.

Project 365

Last year I thought I’d try to keep up with project 365: taking a photo of your life every day. But I failed early on and gave up. This year, I think I can do it! I’m documenting it all in this project 365 set on Flickr.
I just really like the idea [...]

Snowy end to 2009

It snowed! Kenn and I were sitting around, working in the office, when I peeked out the window to see fat snowflakes falling everywhere.

It was fun watching it go from a light dusting to a thick white blanket. I was beside myself with joy and kept calling it a “winter wonderland” over and [...]

Fall garden

Isn’t chard beautiful?
This is my fall garden. It looks a little battered because it’s been raining, but it’s pretty hearty. I planted dragon carrots (they are small and deep red), parsnips, broccoli, chard, and kale. I am a big fan of winter greens, especially kale.

Making Fire

We have a wood-burning stove in our kitchen to help keep it heated. We are getting the hang of using it, making fire and keeping it burning slowly through the day. It’s incredibly cozy and smells wonderful. Kenn is very proud of his newly found caveman firemaking skills.

We have a huge [...]
