Baked Grapefruit

I am a big fan of baked fruit in the Winter. With a few nuts and spices, it is the perfect sweet and warming breakfast or dessert.
I saw some beautiful jewel-colored baked grapefruit at our local favorite neighborhood brunch spot, the Swedish restaurant Broder, and decided to replicate it at home.
All you have to do is cut the grapefruit in half, then cut around each section so they’ll be easier to scoop out when eating. Sprinkle each half with a little cinnamon, brown sugar, and chopped walnuts or pecans.

I bake it at 375 for about 15 minutes, then stick it under the broiler for another minute. It is sweet-tart, juicy, and pretty much perfect with a little bit of yogurt or creamy steel cut oats.

I have tried baking all sorts of fruit, but never thought of grapefruit! I shall have to try this one morning… (I’m trying to get myself out of my boring breakfast rut. lol.) Thanks for sharing!

What other fruit do you like to bake? I love baked apples with maple syrup too (1/2 of one balanced with yogurt or something is good, because they are so sweet).
I’m glad to see that someone else likes warm baked grapefruit here in the NW! I got so much crap for liking mine warm with sugar on top. Your version sounds delicious with the cinnamon though- I’ll have to try it!
This is so tantalizing! I can’t wait to try it with some greek yogurt..
Ooh that looks really good!
I really enjoy reading your blog and am so pleased you’ve been posting more recently. Your photos are always gorgeous too!
Thanks, Kerry! I’ve definitely been feeling like posting more again. It was a hectic last six months. :)
This was our weekend breakfast growing up, followed by toast and marmalade and it’s still one of my favourite things to whip up for breakfast, or just a snack!
You had way more sophisticated tastes than I did as a kid! I couldn’t deal with grapefruit OR marmalade until I was semi-grown up.
It all looks very tasty.

Ooo! That is the answer to my grapefruit habit. It looks so yummy! Funny thing is, I’m in Costa Rica at the moment and it’s the hottest time of the year here, but that still looks soooo good. Can’t wait to try it after I return to cool San Francisco in the early morning while I get ready for work!
Thank you for the recipe!
Oh my! I’ve tried broiled grapefruit before, but not with the cinnamon and nuts. I’m off to the market for a nice Ruby Red grapefruit! Thanks for sharing the recipe.

Of course, here in the Philippines I’d have to find an oven, (we “wok” everything) use a pomelo and top it with peanuts, but then we eat locally…
I tried this the other day and it was Amazing! My friend kept staring at me as I put the halves in the oven. But once he tasted it he was sold too.
I am in the middle of a no bread/sugar diet (not to lose weight but for health reasons) and these postings are literally killing me. ha. might need to wait till this detox is over before I check back… sigh. ?
Your baked grapefruit recipe really inspired me. Wish my photography was as artistic as yours! I made baked grapefruit with honey and five-spice. The smell as it was coming out of the oven was amazing, and the taste didn’t disappoint. Thanks for the inspiration!
