Handmade Wedding: The Photos!
We’ve recently received our photos from the wedding from our amazingly talented photographer, Jillian Kay, and I had to share some of them with you.
Our wedding was pretty casual, but we did ask everyone to wear hats. We also had a photobooth, since we figured hats and photobooths were bound to be a good combination. I’ll post some of those photobooth pictures later.
This was the venue, The Brazilian Room in Tilden Park in Berkeley. It’s a really lovely Arts and Crafts hall surrounded by gorgeous hills and trees. Very Berkeley.
The Brazilian Room has a ton of rules, and you’re basically not allowed to hang anything from the walls or big exposed beams. Since it’s a rather large, empty space, we needed something for color, so we rented some potted trees and hung paper lanterns from them instead. That’s my mom and I doing some of the hanging.
I bought tons of bud vases and bottles from Save on Crafts, stuck some of the flowers in them, and tied nametags to the vases with ribbon in various colors from Britex.
Extra hats, for those that needed them.
I told you Jillian was a great photographer. Believe it or not, I was totally rushing to slop on some makeup before people started showing up, but she made me look like a tranquil diva.
Here you can see the table runners and table numbers I made.
Our friends are amazing. In addition to making the dessert, handling the music and sound, helping with transport and loading, officiating the ceremony, and doing the video, many people came early to help us set up.
My adorable little sister, and my dad.
Ruth Ann won for best hat. Next to her is my gorgeous mother, my Nonna, and my Aunt Yole.
Catering was by Trumpetvine, who were also amazing. The food was seasonal and delicious, and everyone who works for them was so kind and gracious.
Tasha also had a great hat.
We walked down the aisle together to The Jesus and Mary Chain’s “Just Like Honey,” and were married by our friend Stacy, who did a fantastic job.
Pictures from the photobooth were projected on the ceiling.
Small cakes were made by our friend Jojo.
Dancing to Tom Waits’ “Long Way Home.”
At the end of the night, we pointed the photobooth camera outward.
Wow, that is probably more than enough photos! If you’re actually interested in seeing more, I have a gazillion of them up in my Wedding collection on Flickr.
Our wedding was pretty much exactly the way we wanted it to be. We were surrounded by wonderful friends and family, it was relaxed and fun, and much of it was handmade. It made me feel very grateful and blessed. Also, it made me want to throw more parties.

Your wedding looked magical… It seems like you really managed to work everything around your personalities and come up with something so *right*! I don’t think I have words – I just hope I will be so lucky to also have a day (some day!) that incorporates all I think important on such an occasion. And: congratulations!

CONGRATS
Hey, I just dropped by via Wardrobe Refashion because I wanted to say that your wedding dress looks amazing. And then I saw all of the event photos– just wow. People talk for years about planning the perfect wedding, but it looks like you actually did. ^__^ Congratulations to you and your husband!
thanks again all!
Stef: We weren’t really interested in planning a perfect wedding, we were more concerned that everyone would have a good time. It did make me want to have more parties though. :)
So Gorgeous!
You should definitely throw parties, you have the gift. So, so beautiful.
I also came to your website through another blog, and having decided on Saturday to go with red and pink for my upcoming wedding, I was excited to see how beautifully executed your wedding was. I’m excited to get to use your photos to illustrate to family what I’m going for.
Thanks for the inspiration!

Wow Wow Wow!
Just the kind of wedding I’d love to have if my finance’s family wasn’t the straight religious kind.
You did an amazing job :)
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the mention of Trumpetvine Catering: your wedding was one of the most fun we’ve ever catered! Fabulous, good taste, YOUR taste, and the photos are terrific! Great to work with you! Hope ypu’re both well!
Your wedding looks like it was really amazing and fun. I’m getting married and November and considering doing my own flowers since the florists here in NY don’t call back when I give them my flower budget. How difficult was it to do your own floral arrangements? Did you have a bouquet? Was it difficult to make? Everyone is telling me there’s no way I can do this on my own and that I’m crazy. But you pulled it off and it looks great. What’s the secret?
Hi Tammi. You’re not crazy, you can totally do it if you want something fairly unfussy.
I didn’t have a bouquet, but I imagine that wouldn’t have been too hard to put together. I ordered all my flowers from http://fiftyflowers.com/ and they were awesome. The flowers arrived a few days before and needed that time to fully bloom. I bought big paint buckets at the hardware store and kept them in there until I was ready to cut and arrange them.
The arrangements themselves were pretty loose and freeform and relied mostly on the color and abundance of the flowers themselves. I also used tons of bud vases with one or two blooms in them, as you can see in the photos. The vases came from http://www.save-on-crafts.com/ and were really really cheap.
We DIY’ed practically everything. Just make sure you get people to help you, especially with transporting them and setting up. I couldn’t have done it without help setting up from family and friends.
I was wondering how you did your lighting. I am getting married at the Brazilian Room next April and one thing I am not happy with there is the lights…so bright! I would love to hear what you did.
Laura: I don’t precisely remember, but we had only some of the overhead lights on, and supplemented with twinkle lights, paper lanterns, and glass moroccan lanterns with little led tea lights in them.
I love love LOVE your wedding and the photos are knock down GORGEOUS!!!
Your veil/flower/fabulousness is out of this world!
Was it something you made and if so how did you do it? It is EXACTLY the look i’m going for!
thanks and congratulations!!!!
I am so inspired! I won’t be getting married until we both finish our masters, but I want to do as much of it by myself as possible. Reading through your blog and seeing everything you did (and then looking at these absolutely breath-taking photographs) has just sent me a on a whirlwind of ideas for what I want my wedding to be like. Thank you for being such a muse!
Gorgeous wedding! I found you because I was looking for even one image of the Badgley Mischka dress to send to a friend and what a treat to see what you’ve done with the pattern! I’m currently in the throes of making that pattern (full length) in seafoam satin for a casino night (I’m hoping my cleavage will make for Weapons of Mass Distraction because I’m really not that good at poker).
Whoever said that diy weddings were tacky has obviously never seen your wedding photos! I also will be doing lets see… 60% of my wedding diy, and after seeing this, I am so absolutely inspired and certain that I can pull this off!
I Stumbled across your site and had to leave a comment. You guys did a great job. Very creative and unique. You have such wonderful, fun ideas.
I saw the amazing pics of your wedding on oncewed.com and I just had to peek into your blog for more treats. I love that red headpiece, A-MA-ZING! Keep on doing what you’re doing because you do it so well. ;) xx
